Spread the Word to End the Word is a national movement to end the demeaning use of the words 鈥渞etard鈥� and 鈥渞etarded.鈥� On March 4, the movement鈥檚 national day of awareness, several events will occur around campus and throughout the Medical Center to support the campaign.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Students鈥� Association members will be on hand in Wilson Commons to launch the University鈥檚 "It鈥檚 On Us" campaign, a national effort to raise awareness about sexual violence in all of its forms.

Stacey Fisher, assistant director for Wilson Commons student activities, was recently awarded the Joseph H. Benedict Award by the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), an international organization for university union and student activities professionals.

Financial economics major Mark Constable '16 is one of more than 80 military veterans currently enrolled as students at the University. This Veterans Day, we recognize and honor the commitment of our students, faculty, and staff who serve or have served in our nation's armed services, and share just a few of their stories.

Trustee Cathy Minehan and her husband, Jerry Corrigan, have committed an additional $1 million to support the scholarship they established in 2004. The scholarship provides assistance for students in the School of Arts & Sciences with significant financial need, and preference is given to underrepresented minorities, athletes in good academic standing, and those pursuing research in the social sciences.

There has been a 50% increase in the number of veteran students enrolled at the University since 2010. To better serve those students, and the family members of veterans, the University will celebrate the opening of the new Veteran and Military Family Services Office this Veterans Day.

In an effort to increase awareness of and participation in the democratic process, the 蘑菇传媒鈥檚 Committee for Political Engagement (CPE) held a two-day photo shoot on October 28-29 called #TurnOutForWhat to document and share photos of Rochester students, faculty, and staff identifying what issues compel them to vote.

In acknowledgement of their contributions to undergraduate education, professors Julie Bentley, Jeffrey Tucker, and Jonathan Pakianathan were honored with the University's 2014 Goergen Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

Sam Gemar will be coming to campus to give a brief public lecture about the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) and his time with NASA. He will also present William Green '16 with a $10,000 scholarship on behalf of ASF.

Sponsored by the 蘑菇传媒鈥檚 Ballroom Dancing Club, the event will include a string quartet of Eastman School musicians, a local Rochester dance troupe, and the Argentinian tango club.

The performance will feature works by Bruno Mars, Avicii, Queen, and Blue Oyster Cult. Costumes are optional; the audience will be treated to special effects and a party atmosphere worthy of the Halloween season.

Chicago native Vic Mensa is an independent rap artist who recently began a solo career after the breakup of his rap-rock band Kids These Days. Asher Roth is best known for his hit single 鈥淚 Love College鈥�, which reached number 12 on the US Billboard Music Charts.
