Steadman Awards
The Steadman Family Postdoctoral Associate Prize in Interdisciplinary Research provides a monetary award recognizing outstanding postdoctoral associates or postdoctoral fellows at the URochester whose research exemplifies the importance of multiple perspectives and/or cross-disciplinary approaches toward examining high impact questions of society.
The 2025 Steadman Awards and presentations will take place on Monday, September 15, 2025 from 3-4:30 p.m. in the Hawkins-Carlson Room of Rush Rhees Library on the River Campus. The entire Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ community is invited to attend the presentations and reception following. For more information, including a list of presenters, see our 2025 Steadman Family Awards Program (PDF).
Eligibility and Prizes
Candidates must be a current postdoctoral associate or postdoctoral fellow at the URochester. Candidates from all areas of the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ are welcome to apply.
Finalists will be selected to participate in a four-minute oral presentation to a panel of judges at the Steadman Awards Celebration.
Awards:
- Steadman Award - $2,000
- Award for Interdisciplinary Research - $750
- Award for Innovative Research - $750
How to Apply
Steadman Awards applications are closed for 2025, but applications are expected to reopen around August 2026.
Applications will be reviewed by the following criteria:
- The interdisciplinary scope of the research: does the research encompass multiple perspectives and/or disciplines of study?
- Innovative research where research activity and creative thinking is in the service of addressing high impact questions of science and humanity.

Previous Steadman Awards
The Steadman Family Awards is an event held every year during National Postdoc Appreciation Week where postdocs present their research in just a few minutes to a panel of judges and an audience of the University community.

2024 Awards
The 2024 Steadman Awards went to the following:

- Juliana Cazarin de Menezes, Department of Biomedical Genetics – Award for Interdisciplinary Research
- Alex Thomas, Frederick Douglass Institute – Award for Innovative Research
