NIH is providing guidance to researchers on the appropriate use of artificial intelligence (AI)<\/a> to maintain the fairness and originality of NIH\u2019s research application process.\u00a0 NIH is also instituting a new policy limiting the number of applications that NIH will consider per Principal Investigator per calendar year.<\/p>\n

Effective with applications submitted for the September 25, 2025<\/strong>, receipt data and beyond, NIH will not consider applications that are either substantially developed by AI, or contain sections substantially developed by AI to be original ideas of the applicant.\u00a0 If the detection of AI is identified post award, NIH may refer the matter to the Office of Research Integrity to make a research misconduct determination while simultaneously taking enforcement actions.<\/p>\n

The announcement<\/a> also releases a policy indicating that NIH will only accept six (6) new, renewal, resubmission, or revision applications from individual Principal Investigators\/Program Directors or Multiple Principal Investigators for all council rounds in a calendar year. This policy applies to all activity codes except T activity code and R13 Conference Grant applications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
