{"id":18282,"date":"2021-01-04T20:47:34","date_gmt":"2021-01-05T01:47:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/provost\/?p=18282"},"modified":"2022-11-14T11:16:45","modified_gmt":"2022-11-14T16:16:45","slug":"proposed-data-governance-activities-for-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/provost\/proposed-data-governance-activities-for-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Proposed Data Governance Activities for 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The following items were proposed to the Data Governance Council as activities for the Data Governance and Support Office to undertake in 2021.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/provost\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Data-Classifications-Policy-Final-June2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Data Security Classification Policy<\/a> Implementation project has 5 workstreams that kicked off in December and will be meeting through June on the following activities: <ul><li>Update webpages and documents to reflect new data classification labels.<\/li><li>Create communication and change management materials to aid users in the adoption of new data security classifications.<\/li><li>Update existing processes and policies to reflect new data security classifications. <\/li><li>Create New Processes to support the assignment and review of classifications.<\/li><li>Create or update training and educational materials around data security that reflect the new classifications and risk based measures. <\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Data privacy policy<\/strong> investigation to benchmark and do foundation work to understand how our peers address data privacy issues.  Due to kick off in March. <\/li><li><strong>Data retention guidelines <\/strong>to benchmark and do a gap analysis to understand best practices around data retention, record retention, and archiving.  Due to kick off in February. <\/li><li>Identify and document <strong>critical data elements in the student domain<\/strong> to set priorities for data quality efforts for student data.  Due to kick off in April. <\/li><li>Provide process enhancements and make other changes to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/provost\/data-governance-overview\/data-permissions-and-sharing\/\" target=\"_blank\">data permission request process <\/a>to provide additional functionality.  This work will be on going as more domains are brought into the data request process. <\/li><li>Formalize the process and infrastructure to support <strong>ad hoc data management<\/strong> starting with data for business unit identifiers for nursing staff at the hospital.  This work is underway and is likely to be completed by April. <\/li><li>Improve <strong>training and education for data users and data stewards <\/strong>across the University.  This includes restarting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/provost\/introducing-data-dialogues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">data literacy efforts<\/a> suspended in Spring 2020 as well as more detailed training for targeted audiences. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you would like more information about any of this work or would like to make suggestions or participate in any DGSO project, please <a href=\"mailto: datagovernanceoffice@ur.rochester.edu\">email the Data Governance and Support Office.  <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Progress updates will be made regularly as the work progresses. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following items were proposed to the Data Governance Council as activities for the Data Governance and Support Office to undertake in 2021.
