Develop some experience in clinical research methodology and provide some basic training in clinical research. Students are obligated to conduct research projects and to present research reports to their peers.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"hotkey-layer \"><span class=\"hotkey-layer preview-overlay is-preview-sidebar-visible\">Provide the opportunity to learn from,to communicate with, and to be constructively helpful to other professional disciplines.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"hotkey-layer \"><span class=\"hotkey-layer preview-overlay is-preview-sidebar-visible\">Make individuals cognizant of limitations imposed by genetic predispositions and craniofacial growth discrepancies.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Pediatric Residency Program<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>To provide residents with an educational experience that meets or exceeds CODA standards for advanced Educational Programs in Pediatric Dentistry.<\/li>\n<li>To prepare graduates for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry certification process.<\/li>\n<li>To prepare graduates for a career in Pediatric Dentistry with the potential for assuming leadership roles within the profession.<\/li>\n<li>To produce a Pediatric Dentist competent in the prevention and management of orofacial health problems as defined by the scope of Pediatric Dentistry practice.<\/li>\n<li>To stimulate the resident&#8217;s desire for creativity, critical thinking and inquiry necessary for the advancement of Pediatric Dentistry.<\/li>\n<li>To sensitize residents to the problems associated with access to health care for children living in poverty and populations with special health care needs.<\/li>\n<li>To train residents in becoming medical professionals who embody the ICARE values set forth by the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Medical Center: Inclusiveness, Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>AEGD Residency Program<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The two-year residents are expected to fulfill the postgraduate requirements of Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Eastman Institute for Oral Health and the American Dental Association\u2019s Commission on Dental Education through the accreditation requirements.<\/li>\n<li>To attract and educate the future leaders of dental practice, dental education, dental research, and community service.<\/li>\n<li>To stimulate the resident\u2019s interest and prepare the graduate for a possible career in academics and research.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare the graduate to act as primary care provider for individuals and groups of patients. This includes providing emergency and multi-disciplinary comprehensive oral health care, providing patient focused care that is coordinated by the General Practitioner, and directing health promotion and disease prevention activities.<\/li>\n<li>Plan and provide multidisciplinary oral health care for a wide variety of patients including patients with special needs.<\/li>\n<li>Function effectively and efficiently in multiple health care environments within interdisciplinary health care teams.<\/li>\n<li>Apply scientific principles to learning and oral health care. This includes using critical thinking, evidence of outcome-based clinical decision-making, and technology-based information retrieval system.<\/li>\n<li>Utilize the values of professional ethics, lifelong learning, patient centered care, adaptability and acceptance of cultural diversity in professional practice.<\/li>\n<li>Understand the oral health needs of communities and engage in community service.<\/li>\n<li>Manage the delivery of oral health care by applying concepts of patient and practice management and quality improvements that are responsive to a dynamic health care environment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Periodontics Residency Program<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Provide comprehensive preparation of competent residents to practice periodontics.<\/li>\n<li>To provide comprehensive periodontal care for a variety of patients and periodontal diseases.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare residents to successfully complete certification by the American Board of Periodontology.<\/li>\n<li>Train residents to be teachers.<\/li>\n<li>Provide residents with the opportunity to do research and obtain postgraduate degrees, to the extent that they desire.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Prosthodontics Residency Program<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>To provide competency in managing and treating a wide scope of clinical conditions for partially edentulous, completely edentulous and dentate patients.<\/li>\n<li>To develop clinical competency in the application of principles associated with fixed prosthodontics, implant prosthodontics, and removable prosthodontics.<\/li>\n<li>To provide competency in the application of evidence-based dentistry.<\/li>\n<li>To provide competency in the application of ethical principles and decision making in the students\u2019 clinical and research environment.<\/li>\n<li>To develop competency in the application of esthetic to Prosthodontics.<\/li>\n<li>To develop competency in the surgical placement (and related surgical procedures) and restoration of dental implants.<\/li>\n<li>To provide competency in the selection and application of biomaterials.<\/li>\n<li>To develop an in-depth knowledge and competency for the utilization of digital dentistry workflows.<\/li>\n<li>To develop competency in the prosthodontic management of the patients with temporomandibular disorders and \/or orofacial pain.<\/li>\n<li>To provide experience with patients requiring maxillofacial prosthetic care.<\/li>\n<li>To provide relevant didactic course content in the Basic Sciences, Prosthodontic and related disciplines which will establish a firm foundation to base clinical diagnosis and treatment in prosthodontics.<\/li>\n<li>To develop competency and a knowledge base sufficient to challenge The American Board of Prosthodontists examination.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Residency Program<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Proficient in-patient evaluation and management<\/li>\n<li>Proficient in dentoalveolar surgery<\/li>\n<li>Proficient in ambulatory anesthesia and sedation<\/li>\n<li>Competent in orthognathic surgery<\/li>\n<li>Competent in TMJ surgery<\/li>\n<li>Competent in oncologic surgery including major resections<\/li>\n<li>Competent in reconstructive surgery<\/li>\n<li>Competent in facial trauma surgery<\/li>\n<li>Competent in facial cosmetic surgery<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Orofacial Pain Residency Program<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Provide education in orofacial pain at the level beyond predoctoral education relating to the basic mechanisms and the anatomic, physiologic, neurologic, vascular, behavioral, and psychosocial aspects of orofacial pain.<\/li>\n<li>Plan and provide interdisciplinary\/multidisciplinary health care for a wide variety of patients with orofacial pain.<\/li>\n<li>Interact with other health care professionals in order to facilitate the patients\u2019 total health care.<\/li>\n<li>Manage the delivery of oral health care by applying concepts of patient and practice management and quality improvement that are responsive to a dynamic health care environment.<\/li>\n<li>Function effectively and efficiently in multiple health care environments and within interdisciplinary multidisciplinary health care teams.<\/li>\n<li>Apply scientific principles to learning and oral health care.
