Dear Members of the University Community,

To support campus safety and ensure compliance with New York State law, the University is reminding the community of the requirements governing the use of electric scooters (e-scooters) and electric bikes (e-bikes).

Key Rules

ÌýUse on Campus

  • E-scooters and e-bikes may be used for commuting to and from campus.
  • Riding is permitted only on Library Road and Wilson Boulevard.
  • Riding is prohibited on all other campus sidewalks, roadways, and indoor or outdoor campus spaces.
  • Riders must dismount and park devices at designated perimeter dismount and outdoor parking zones.
  • Per New York State law, e-scooters may not be operated on sidewalks.

Buildings Restrictions

For safety and fire prevention, e-scooters and e-bikes cannot be:

  • taken into or ridden within University buildings
  • stored in any building, including lobbies, offices, hallways, stairwells, or common areas
  • charged inside buildings

Exception: storage is permitted only in designated rooms at Brooks Crossing.

Important battery safety note

Since lithium-ion batteries themselves pose a fire risk, e-bike and e-scooter batteries are not permitted in any building or room that is not explicitly approved for their storage or charging.

ÌýOutdoor Parking

The University provides designated outdoor parking areas for e-scooters and e-bikes, which must be secured in these spaces. Maps of these areas are available in the University policy.

ÌýSafety and Enforcement

E‑scooters and e‑bikes pose a significant fire risk when stored or charged inside buildings and may obstruct evacuation routes during emergencies.

Violations may result in fines, device confiscation, and/or referral to the appropriate disciplinary process. If you observe an e-bike or e-scooter inside a building, please contact the Department of Public Safety at 585-275-3333.

For complete details and maps, please review the e-scooter and e-bike policy.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep our campus safe.

Due to weather-related operational changes, the following shuttles are impacted today:
• The Innovation Square Direct shuttle will not be operating.
• The Gold Line and Blue Line routes will operate with one bus instead of two.

Please use the TripShot map for the most accurate shuttle locations.

All other shuttles are operating today but may experience delays due to weather conditions.

1/23/26 5:00 PM – Due to the forecasted snow and cold temperatures, Transportation and Logistics will be offering the following transportation services for University community members who park in remote lots:

  • Silver Line Shuttle
Operates Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. and provides shuttle service from Zone 3 South (near the canal) to the center of campus.
  • Medical Center Evening Shuttle
Operates Monday through Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 1:21 a.m. and provides service between the Medical Center and Lots 1, 11, 9, 2, 3 and the Ronald McDonald House.
  • Additional Morning Shuttle – Monday, January 26
An additional transport will operate from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., providing service from Lot 1 and Lot 9 to the Medical Center.

ÌýPreparing for the weather

Dressing for the wind chills is important to prevent frost bite. When outside, individuals should wear a heavy insulated coat; three-plus layers with one insulating layer (wool or synthetic heat-containing material); waterproof boots; scarf, gloves and warm hat.

For emergency assistance on campus, call or text 585-275-3333, or call 911.
