WHAT:<\/strong>\u00a0Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ students, faculty, and staff will celebrate Day of the Arts 2015: Silence<\/em>, which includes five events centered on the question \u201cWhat is Silence?\u201d This two-day series explores movement, dance, art, and music. The day is sponsored by UCIS ARTS@UR Cluster, the Art and Art History Department, the Program of Dance and Movement, the International Theatre Program, and Medical Humanities.<\/p>\n

TIME, DATE, PLACE:<\/strong>\u00a0Wednesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 9, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ River Campus. All events are free and open to the public. For additional information visit, https:\/\/theartofsilenceur.wordpress.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Schedule of Events:<\/p>\n

Wednesday, April 8<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Workshop: Mindfulness and Meditation<\/strong>,<\/em> 11a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Spurrier Dance Studio. An experimental class that combines meditation, restorative yoga, and other mindful practices. All levels are welcome.<\/p>\n

Films: \u2018On the Edge of Self<\/em>,<\/strong>\u2019 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Rettner Hall for Media Arts and Innovation, and \u2018Soliloquy,<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sage Art Center\u2019s AsIs Gallery. Curated by S. Alana Wolf-Johnson, the films explore the concept of silence that fills gaps dividing communication, time, and space. The films will be screened continuously on April 8-9.<\/p>\n

Exhibit: \u201cSilence: A Book Showcase,\u201d<\/em><\/strong> main floor of Rush Rhees library. A collection of books about silence and our relationship to it will be on display throughout the month of April.<\/p>\n

Thursday, April <\/span><\/strong>9<\/strong><\/p>\n

Artist Talk: Inspiration to Production \u2013 A look at the process of creating collaborative Interdisciplinary Art<\/em><\/strong>, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Spurrier Dance Studio. D. Chase Angier, artistic director of Angier Performance Works, will discuss her process and discoveries creating As the Air Moves Back From You, a performance installation involving 10,000 pounds of rice, music, dance, and multimedia projections.<\/p>\n

Artist Talk: <\/strong>5 to 6 p.m., Gowen Room in Wilson Commons.<\/strong> Artist and educator David Griffin will give a talk on his experimental music notation project, which uses a scoring system for silence in performance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
