The Manufacturing Universities Act of 2015 would establish a program within the Commerce Department\u2019s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) charged with designating 25 schools as \u201cManufacturing Universities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rob Clark, senior vice president for research and dean of the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to thank Senator Gillibrand for reintroducing the Manufacturing Universities Act andrecognizing that engineers and engineering schools play a vital role in our nation&#8217;s competitiveness. The Manufacturing Universities Act will invest in our nation&#8217;s research institutions by bolstering research and education programs. This will help develop the innovations and the skilled, entrepreneurial workforce needed to revitalize U.S. manufacturing, including the optics, photonics, imaging, and display manufacturing sectors
