Beth Greenwood \u201922 joins Phillies\u2019 minor league affiliate.<\/h2>\n

Beth Greenwood \u201922\u2014the first woman player in Yellowjackets baseball history and the first American woman catcher in NCAA baseball history\u2014has reached another milestone.<\/p>\n

Greenwood was hired in February as a development coach by the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball. The Amherst, New Hampshire, native works for the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, the Phillies\u2019 Class A minor-league affiliate.<\/p>\n

Greenwood, who majored in mechanical engineering<\/a> at the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½<\/a>, completed an 18-month stint with the Phillies as a baseball research and development fellow while also gaining coaching experience. She\u2019s also a member of the US national women\u2019s baseball team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited to stay in the Phillies organization and help develop players and build relationships,\u201d says Greenwood, who primarily works with catchers and helps with the Blue-Claws\u2019 daily game plan. \u201cWhen I was growing up, women coaching in pro baseball was practically nonexistent. Over the last decade, major strides have been made in proving there are experienced and qualified women to coach baseball. I look forward to following in their footsteps to help pave the way for the next generation of girls and women in the game.\u201d<\/p>\n
