As part of the Difficult Conversations series, the granddaughter of French explorer Jacques Cousteau will discuss the urgency of saving Earth\u2019s waters.<\/h2>\n

Ocean conservationist and environmental activist Alexandra Cousteau will be the featured speaker in the next installment of the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½<\/a>\u2019s Difficult Conversations as a Catalyst for Change series.<\/a><\/p>\n

The granddaughter of famed French explorer Jacques Cousteau will speak on Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. EST in Feldman Ballroom, Frederick Douglass Commons, on the River Campus. The event will be livestreamed online via Zoom. Those interested in attending in person or viewing online must register for the event.<\/a> A Zoom link will be emailed the day before Cousteau\u2019s talk, which is titled \u201cTelling the Story of Our Water Planet: Innovation in Filmmaking and Social Media to Effect Environmental Change.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cousteau advocates the importance of conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of ocean and water resources for a healthy planet and productive societies. In 2000, she cofounded EarthEcho International<\/a> with her brother, Philippe Cousteau Jr., to continue her family\u2019s legacy in science, advocacy, and education. In 2018, she founded the Oceans 2050<\/a> initiative, which seeks to provide habitats for marine line, improve water quality by developing and maintaining marine forests, and restore abundance to the ocean by 2050.<\/p>\n

Difficult Conversations is sponsored by the College in Arts, Sciences & Engineering<\/a> and presented by Donald Hall, the Robert L. and Mary L. Sproull Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Sciences & Engineering. The series brings to campus thought leaders with strong opinions about the problems Americans face to answer questions from the University community.<\/p>\n

The semi-annual event began in 2018. Past speakers include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Angela Davis, Madeleine Albright, and George Takei.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
