This event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/university-of-rochester-2022-martin-luther-king-jr-commemorative-address-registration-227184042587\">Register online<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Registered participants will receive a Zoom link via email the day of the event.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Walker will discuss the mental health challenges facing African Americans and take questions from the audience on Friday, January 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. EST. This online event is free and open. All attendees must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/university-of-rochester-2022-martin-luther-king-jr-commemorative-address-registration-227184042587\">register<\/a>, and a Zoom link will be emailed to virtual participants the day of the event.<\/p>\n<p>Walker will meet online with University student leaders prior to her speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur students on the selection panel wanted to focus on mental health and tie it to the theme of civil rights,\u201d says Thomas Crews, cochair of the event and an academic program coordinator in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/college\/omsa\/\">Office of Minority Student Affairs<\/a> (OMSA). \u201cDr. Walker fits that theme perfectly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walker wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newharbinger.com\/9781684034147\/the-unapologetic-guide-to-black-mental-health\/\"><em>The Unapologetic Guide to Black Mental Health<\/em><\/a>, a 2020 self-help book author Jemima Pierre has called \u201ca Black cultural tour de force; a robust and revelatory declaration that our very own culture can save us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walker\u2019s work has appeared or been cited in the <em>Washington Post<\/em>, CNN Health, the <em>Houston Chronicle<\/em>, and <em>Ebony<\/em> magazine.<\/p>\n<p>The event is cosponsored by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/president\/\">Office of the President<\/a> and OMSA. It was instituted in 2001 to promote issues of diversity, freedom, civil rights, and social justice in order to commemorate King\u2019s legacy. Past speakers have included Ibram Kendi, Symone Sanders, Joy DeGruy, Jesse Jackson, Maria Hinojosa, Michael Eric Dyson, and Martin Luther King
