The Sloan Performing Arts Center serves as a new campus site for students, faculty, and guest artists to perform original choreography.<\/h2>\n

On November 6 and 7, the Program of Dance and Movement<\/a> at the URochester presented Confluence<\/em>\u2014its annual fall concert of multidisciplinary work and collaborations between faculty and students in choreography, lighting, and costume design.<\/p>\n

A visual and aural delight, the concert was the first event to take place inside the 200-seat black box theater at the University\u2019s new Sloan Performing Arts Center. The contemporary space serves as the hub of theater, dance, and music on the River Campus\u2014creating a performing arts corridor between Todd Union and the Strong Auditorium.<\/p>\n

AN EASTMAN ORIGINAL:<\/strong> Accompanying the choreography is an original composition by Andrew Watkins, a doctoral student at the Eastman School of Music, performed live by the Andrew Alcocer Axiom Ensemble. ECOLOGICAL APPROACH:<\/strong> Vernal Traverse, choreographed by faculty member Anne Harris Wilcox, addresses unsung heroes of the natural environment and is inspired by scholar and author Robin Wall Kimmerer\u2019s book, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom<\/em>, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants,<\/em> and the poetry of Emily Dickinson. Performing are Kate Carnes \u201822, Maya Chen-Jones \u201825, Mary Halvorsen \u201925, Roni Kirson \u201925, Frayda Lieber \u201925, and Margaret Porcelli \u201922.
