Jack Bailey, an attorney in the Office of the General Counsel, brings experience in complex compliance and regulatory issues to role as administrator to the trustees and the president.<\/h2>\n

Jack Bailey, an attorney with almost 30 years of experience in regulatory and compliance issues for large organizations, has been named as the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½<\/a>\u2019s secretary to the Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n

Effective December 1, the appointment is a full-time position that returns the role of secretary to a previous organizational structure designed to provide dedicated support to the Office of the President and to the Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n

As a member of President Sarah Mangelsdorf\u2019s senior leadership group<\/a>, Bailey will report to both the board and to Mangelsdorf. Tony Green, who has been serving as secretary to the board and chief of staff for Mangelsdorf, will focus full time on his duties as chief of staff.<\/p>\n

In his role as secretary, Bailey will manage all official records of the board, help set procedures for board meetings, and work with the board\u2019s leadership on policies, membership information, and other duties.<\/p>\n

Joining the University in March 2020 as a member of the University\u2019s general counsel staff, Bailey previously held leadership roles as a general counsel for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Incorporated (IEEE), several senior counsel positions at the Eastman Kodak Company, and deputy executive director at the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) of the Institute of International Education (IIE).<\/p>\n

\u201cJack is an insightful, experienced leader with an understanding of complex legal, regulatory, and risk issues that will make him invaluable in his role as secretary to the board,\u201d Mangelsdorf says. \u201cHe\u2019s worked closely with every member of the cabinet to develop successful partnerships across many areas of the institution. I\u2019m confident that he will bring the same expert perspective to his work with the trustees in ways that improve the University\u2019s policies and practices.\u201d<\/p>\n

As an attorney in the counsel\u2019s office, Bailey has reported to Donna Gooden Payne, vice president and general counsel, with a portfolio that includes labor and employment law.<\/p>\n

Gooden Payne says Bailey has a broad range of expertise as an attorney that has served him well in his role in the counsel\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

\u201cJack brings excellent knowledge, experience, and insight to a complex organization like Rochester,\u201d Gooden Payne says. \u201cAnd he does it with a strong sense of what\u2019s best for the entire University.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bailey received his law degree from the University of Michigan and received a bachelor\u2019s degree from Georgetown University\u2019s School of Foreign Service. He is a member of both the California and New York state bars.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
