The Ä¢¹½´«Ã½<\/a> Department of Public Safety<\/a> (DPS) has received full accreditation from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), the leading authority for campus public safety. DPS recently demonstrated to outside, impartial experts its compliance with national standards that denote current best practices in the profession. Fewer than 100 agencies have earned this distinctive recognition. This is the first term of IACLEA accreditation for DPS.<\/p>\n

IACLEA<\/a> is an association that represents campus public safety leaders at more than 1,200 institutions of higher education worldwide and offers accreditation to colleges and university law enforcement, security, and public safety departments.<\/p>\n

The accreditation has been earned by fewer than 100 campus safety departments out of more than 1,200 institutions represented.<\/div>\n

\u201cWe are extremely pleased to receive this accreditation,\u201d said DPS Chief Mark Fischer. \u201cAll of our officers and department staff are very committed to building strong relationships with our University communities and demonstrating the highest standards and level of service each day. This accreditation is a result of their professionalism and dedication to service. We are proud of this honor as IACLEA requires annual compliance with 215 standards, as well as conducting regular training sessions to reinforce the established concepts and procedures.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKnowing that for two years DPS reviewed and updated its policies and procedures as part of this process, I congratulate the entire department for achieving the gold standard of campus safety,\u201d said Holly Crawford, senior vice president and CFO.<\/p>\n

In early March, a team of assessors from IACLEA visited campus to examine all aspects of the department\u2019s policies and procedures, management, operation, and support services. Members of the University community, employees from local law enforcement agencies, and the general public were also invited to offer comments to the assessment team.<\/p>\n

In delivering its accreditation, the IACLEA commended DPS for demonstrating a commitment to the highest professional practices in campus public safety management, administration, operations, and support services.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe congratulate the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Department of Public Safety on achieving IACLEA accreditation, a unique distinction among campus police and public safety agencies,\u201d said IACLEA President John Vinson, assistant vice president for student life: campus & community safety at the University of Washington \u2013 Seattle. \u201cThe men and women protecting Rochester\u2019s campus have proven through policy and practice the commitment to operate at the highest level of the profession.\u201d<\/p>\n

The full accreditation by the international organization of campus safety administrators required meeting more than 200 separate standards and is achieved by fewer than 100 campus safety departments at universities
