In support of sustainable investing, the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½<\/a>\u00a0is now the\u00a0sixth\u00a0higher education institution\u00a0in the country to join\u00a0Climate Action\u00a0100+<\/a>. This coalition of investment firms, pension funds, and institutional investors pushes the corporations that are the world\u2019s largest greenhouse-gas emitters to agree to plans that will lower these emissions, be transparent\u00a0about their operations, and take necessary action on climate change.<\/p>\n

The University\u2019s Investment Office and Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees have\u00a0committed to this coalition, a\u00a0move\u00a0recommended by\u00a0the University\u2019s\u00a0Ethical Investment Advisory Committee<\/a>\u00a0(EIAC). The EIAC comprises student, faculty, and staff representatives who help ensure that the University\u2019s endowment excludes investments in companies that represent business, labor, social, or environmental practices that are inconsistent with the University\u2019s values.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cJoining Climate Action 100+ is a significant action for us because it positions the University as a leader among US private research universities on\u00a0sustainable investment,\u201d says Randall Stone,\u00a0EIAC chair and professor of political science. \u201cOnly\u00a0five\u00a0other\u00a0US higher education\u00a0institutions are members of the coalition\u2014Harvard University,\u00a0Macalester College, University of California, Loyola Marymount University, and Amherst College. We worked closely with\u00a0our\u00a0Investment\u00a0Office\u00a0to\u00a0accomplish this,\u00a0and we\u2019re very pleased that the\u00a0Board of Trustees\u00a0Investment Committee adopted it unanimously.\u201d<\/p>\n

Launched in December 2017, Climate Action 100+ is a coalition of over 370 investors with more than $35 trillion in assets under management that are engaging companies on improving governance, curbing emissions, and strengthening climate-related financial disclosures. Climate Action 100+ systematically engages with companies that have significant opportunities to drive the clean-energy transition and help achieve the goals of the 2016 Paris Agreement<\/a> on climate change.
