Anthony Green, deputy to the provost since 2016, has been named chief of staff to the president, and secretary to the Board of Trustees. President Sarah Mangelsdorf announced Green\u2019s appointment, which is effective Jan. 1, 2020.<\/p>\n

Green succeeds Lamar Riley Murphy, who for 13 years has served as presidential chief of staff, and for eight years as secretary to the Board. Murphy is retiring from the University at the end of December.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m delighted to welcome Tony to the President\u2019s Office and to this important dual role that is essential to advancing our mission, values and institutional priorities,\u201d said Mangelsdorf, president and G. Robert Witmer Jr. University Professor. \u201cTony brings a deep perspective on University operations and culture with his breadth of experience at the University, and I know him to be a highly respected professional who has done tremendous work managing many key University initiatives and projects.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI additionally want to express my gratitude to Lamar, a valued colleague who has provided incredible guidance, counsel and assistance to me prior to my arrival at Rochester and ever since. As much as she has helped me, I know that she has extended her support and kindness to so many University community members for many years. I wish her all the happiness in her retirement,\u201d said Mangelsdorf.<\/p>\n

The chief of staff acts as the principal aide to the president and serves as a member of the President\u2019s Senior Leadership Group, Cabinet, and University Management Team. Key responsibilities include managing operations, events, scheduling, staff, and budget in Office of the President, and serving as liaison to internal and external groups dealing with wide range of initiatives and issues.<\/p>\n

The secretary to the Board keeps a complete record of all meetings of the Board of Trustees and executive committee, maintains official board records, and frequently facilitates communications between the trustees and University officers.<\/p>\n

As deputy to the provost, Green has served on the provost\u2019s senior leadership team and worked closely with deans, vice provosts, academic department chairs, and other leaders to ensure effective communications between the Office of the Provost and University community members. He has represented the office on many committees and councils chaired or co-chaired by the nine offices of the provost. He joined the University in 2008 as associate director of admissions and director of MS programs in the Simon Business School. He went on to serve as financial analyst and later director of finance and administration in the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.<\/p>\n

Green earned his bachelor\u2019s degree from RIT, and an MBA in operations from Syracuse University\u2019s Whitman School of Management.<\/p>\n
