{"id":364472,"date":"2019-02-22T13:14:03","date_gmt":"2019-02-22T18:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/?p=364472"},"modified":"2023-04-21T16:55:04","modified_gmt":"2023-04-21T20:55:04","slug":"three-rochester-student-teams-competing-for-1m-hult-prize-364472","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/three-rochester-student-teams-competing-for-1m-hult-prize-364472\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Rochester teams compete for $1M Hult Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three teams comprised of recent Rochester graduates and current undergraduates will compete in regional finals for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hultprize.org\/\">Hult Prize<\/a>, the world\u2019s largest social entrepreneurship contest.<\/p>\n<p>First prize is $1 million in seed capital.<\/p>\n<p>This year marks the 10<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Hult Prize, and the challenge to all teams is to build the foundations of a venture that will provide meaningful work for 10,000 youth within the next decade. More than 2,000 teams will compete at 26 regional finals across the globe\u2014from Cairo and Dubai to Madrid and Manila. Applications reached an all-time high of more than 120,000 teams this year.<\/p>\n<p>The winners from each regional will be invited to Hertfordshire, England, for an eight-week summer accelerator at the Ashridge Castle, home to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hult.edu\/\">Hult International Business School\u2019s<\/a> Ashridge Executive Education program. The field will be narrowed to five teams in August, and the $1 million prize winner will be announced by former president Bill Clinton in September in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/aincenter\/\">Ain Center for Entrepreneurship<\/a> provides support to advancing teams through mentoring and funding to defray travel and accommodation costs. Each center will employ 100 girls who are at risk of prostitution, giving them paid internships to become certified yoga or meditation instructors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Members: <\/strong>Xueying (Shelley) Chen \u201919, an international relations and business entrepreneurship dual major from Zhoushan, China; Yaocheng (Sparrow) Tian \u201922, an optical engineering major from Qinghai, China;
