Scholar and political activist Angela Davis will pay a visit to the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ in March to speak on the role of universities in fostering engaged citizenship.<\/p>\n
Davis will speak Tuesday, March 5, at Strong Auditorium on the River Campus. The talk will begin at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
The talk, entitled \u201cThe University\u2019s Role in Educating Students to be Engaged Citizens,\u201d is part of the series Difficult Conversations as a Catalyst for Change, presented by Donald Hall, the University\u2019s Robert L. and Mary Sproull Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Sciences & Engineering<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cFrom her groundbreaking work as a theorist of race, class and gender to her long-standing commitment to prison reform, Angela Davis embodies the concept of the activist intellectual,\u201d Hall says. \u201cAs the next speaker in our Difficult Conversationsseries, she is uniquely poised to speak about how universities can equip students to become engaged citizens of the world, where disagreements abound but common cause can be found around the need for respectful dialogue across differences.\u201d<\/p>\n
