Making the move from military service to college life can be challenging.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe military is a structured, team-based environment where every moment is planned out,\u201d says Adam Mitchell \u201919, a brain and cognitive sciences major who spent five years in the Marines. \u201cCollege life is very broad and independent. The transition can be overwhelming.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ is committed to making sure veterans stay on course during their time in college.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone wants our veteran students to succeed, and liaisons have been established across campus to make it possible,\u201d says Pat Toporzycki, director of the University\u2019s Veterans and Family Services Office<\/a>. \u201cMany veterans come through a nontraditional path and may need additional guidance. Others just need to know we are here for them.\u201d<\/p>\n Rochester serves those who served their country in many ways:<\/p>\n The University\u2019s efforts to help veterans have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report,<\/em> which lists Rochester as the 13th<\/sup> best college for veterans in its 2018-19 rankings.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cBeing here at the University has been fantastic,\u201d Mitchell says. \u201cAny time I ever faced a hardship, the school helped me out and made sure I could stay.\u201d<\/p>\n With Veterans Day approaching, here are profiles of a few Rochester student-veterans.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Archibald was 14 when his family immigrated to America from South Africa in 1999. Two years later, he watched on television from his high school outside of Rochester as terrorists struck on September 11.<\/p>\n\n
