Cary Jensen, assistant vice provost for international advocacy & engagement. ( Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ photo \/ J. Adam Fenster)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nJensen, who joined the University in 1996, will lead University international compliance, advocacy, and engagement services. He will develop and implement evidence-based campus policies, programs, and processes that support the diverse, often emerging needs of international populations on campus, ensuring the institution is well-positioned to support their success. The position also develops programs and processes that promote international diversity and inclusion University-wide, and helps mitigate the risks for international populations who are subject to changing immigration policies.<\/p>\n
\u201cCary is our expert on interpreting and managing the immigration regulations that so often can affect members of international community,\u201d says Gatewood. \u201cHe has supported so many individuals through these challenges helping them to maximize the rewards of studying or working here at Rochester. With his extensive global and legal knowledge, he is ideal for this new and much-needed role in Global Engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jensen first came to the University as associate university counsel, working closely with academic and administrative personnel on a broad range of legal matters, including student discipline, regulatory compliance, policy revision, litigation, and conflict resolution.\u00a0 In 1999, he became director of University International Relations, focusing on international alumni engagement and advancement. Since 2001, he has served as senior counsel and ISO director, responsible for all aspects of immigration-related issues for international students, scholars and their sponsoring departments, as well overseeing 15 full-time staff serving more than 3,500 current international students and scholars.<\/p>\n
Jensen also teaches courses in Approaches to Conflict Resolution, and International Student Advising. He received both a J.D. and bachelor\u2019s degree from Brigham Young University and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyer Association, as well as NAFSA Association of International Educators.<\/p>\n
As a search is conducted for Jensen\u2019s position in ISO, Associate Director of International Student Services Stephanie Krause, and Associate Director of Scholar Services Kathleen Strout will serve as acting directors, respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
