Jane Marie Souza, associate provost for academic administration and chief assessment officer, has been voted as president-elect of the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education<\/a> (AALHE).<\/p>\n

She begins her duties at the June 2018 conference in Salt Lake City. She will serve on the executive committee for three years as president-elect, president, and immediate past-president.<\/p>\n

Souza, a board member for AALHE, has also been serving as the editor-in-chief of the organization\u2019s quarterly publication, Intersection: a journal at the intersection of assessment and learning. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cJane Marie is an indefatigable leader in the field, and she will represent the University well in her new leadership role,\u201d says Joan Saab, vice provost of academic affairs and Susan B. Anthony Professor and chair of the Department of Art and Art History.<\/p>\n

AALHE is a professional association for assessment practitioners at colleges, universities, and higher education support organizations. It provides resources and a forum to support assessment practitioners\u2019 professional development and the research, documentation, open discussion of issues, strategies, policies, and processes associated with the use of assessment to improve student learning and institutional effectiveness in fostering student success.<\/p>\n

The association supports the generation of theory and information about effective assessment.<\/p>\n

Souza joined the University in 2015 and is responsible for managing academic policies in areas that require coordination among schools. She also serves as a liaison with the New York State Education Department and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
