  {"id":293642,"date":"2018-01-29T08:46:34","date_gmt":"2018-01-29T13:46:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/?p=293642"},"modified":"2018-01-29T08:46:34","modified_gmt":"2018-01-29T13:46:34","slug":"ching-tang-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/ching-tang-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Ching Tang inducted into National Inventors Hall of Fame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ching Tang, professor emeritus of chemical engineering at the URochester, has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.invent.org\/honor\/inductees\/inductee-detail\/?IID=557\">inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame<\/a> for helping to pioneer the organic light-emitting diode, or OLED.<\/p>\n<p>Used in flat panel displays found in computers, cell phones, and televisions, OLEDs \u201cprovide increased power efficiency, longer battery life, and improved display quality,\u201d the Hall of Fame notes.<\/p>\n<p>Tang pioneered the technology with Steven Van Slyke, also among this year&#8217;s inductees, while working for Eastman Kodak as a research scientist.<\/p>\n<p>Tang joined the Department of Chemical Engineering in 2006.
