{"id":286932,"date":"2017-12-12T13:46:16","date_gmt":"2017-12-12T18:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/?p=286932"},"modified":"2019-11-13T12:32:10","modified_gmt":"2019-11-13T17:32:10","slug":"wayne-knox-national-academy-inventors-fellow-286932","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/wayne-knox-national-academy-inventors-fellow-286932\/","title":{"rendered":"Knox elected fellow of National Academy of Inventors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a teenager, Wayne Knox \u201979, \u201984 (PhD) \u201csometimes filled the house with smoke\u201d while building short wave radios and other electronic gadgets from scratch.<\/p>\n<p>This week the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ professor of optics is among the latest fellows to be elected to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.academyofinventors.org\/\">National Academy of Inventors<\/a> for demonstrating a \u201chighly prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Knox has been awarded 50 US patents, and another 150 or so worldwide, starting with one he received for work that he did as an undergraduate at the University.
