TIME, DATE, AND PLACE:<\/strong>\u00a08 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, in Hatch Recital Hall, Eastman School of Music, 26 Gibbs Street, Rochester, NY.<\/p>\n

WHAT:<\/strong>\u00a0Music and writings of\u00a0Karol Szymanowski<\/a>\u00a0will be featured in a concert commemorating the 130th anniversary of the composer’s birthday and 75th anniversary of his death.<\/p>\n

Karol Szymanowski (1882 \u2013 1937) was one of the most important composers of the first half of the 20th century, and his position in Polish music can only be compared to that of Chopin. His works included four symphonies, two violin concertos, two operas,\u00a0Hagith<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0King Roger<\/em>, the ballet-pantomime\u00a0Harnasie<\/em>, the oratorio\u00a0Stabat Mater<\/em>, as well as numerous piano, violin, vocal and choral compositions. They are more widely performed and recorded today than ever before.<\/p>\n

Outstanding musicians from the Eastman School of Music\u2013Katherine Ciesinski, mezzo-soprano; Clay Jenkins, trumpet; Jan Opalach, bass-baritone; Maria Raczka, violin; Dariusz Terefenko, piano; as well as Hwaen Ch’uqi, piano and Karolina Terefenko, violin\u2013join, forces in this tribute to the great composer. Matthew Ames, assistant professor of theatre arts at Nazareth College, will read excerpts from Szymanowski’s writings.<\/p>\n
