{"id":194042,"date":"2016-11-01T12:44:53","date_gmt":"2016-11-01T16:44:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/?p=194042"},"modified":"2016-11-01T12:52:50","modified_gmt":"2016-11-01T16:52:50","slug":"disability-awareness-campaign-spreads-understanding-of-differences-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/newscenter\/disability-awareness-campaign-spreads-understanding-of-differences-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Disability Awareness Campaign spreads understanding of differences, resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cOur Accommodations Make Us Level,\u201d and \u201cThere is No Shame in Difference\u201d are some of the messages being displayed around the University that are a part of a new Disability Awareness Campaign, which highlights all of the support services and resources available to students, faculty and staff, as well helps to spread understanding of the unique and wide-ranging abilities of people who may otherwise be dealing with a disability. The campaign encourages full use of all of the different services available to University community members who every day cope with a disability or have a special accessibility need, as well provides information to professors on ways to address these needs in the courses they teach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany individuals at the University may not know about the full range of disability support services available that can help make living, learning or working here easier on a daily basis,\u201d said Morgan Levy, University director of Equal Opportunity and Title IX coordinator. \u201cAmong the purposes of this campaign is to bring all of this information together in one place. We have also assembled a team of professionals who are ready to ensure that members of our community with disabilities have equal access, reasonable accommodation, and full participation in the University experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The online resource (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/disability\/\">http:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/disability\/<\/a>) provides tools for students, faculty and staff.<\/p>\n<p>For students, information is available on formally documenting a disability or condition, connecting with access coordinators, navigating housing and dining accommodations, as well as parking and transportation services.<\/p>\n<p>University employees can learn how to request needed workplace accommodations and parking services.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty members can get assistance with developing syllabus statements and class policies, as well as creating accessible course materials.<\/p>\n<p>The University\u2019s Disability Awareness Campaign is conducted through the Office of the Director of Equal Opportunity Compliance, and the University Intercessor and Director of Disability Compliance.
