On Tuesday, Jan. 5, the Rochester Police Department (RPD) and the University\u2019s Department of Public Safety will conduct joint exercises on River Campus.\u00a0 These live exercises are intended to test crisis response capabilities and coordination among local response units by using a realistic scenario.<\/p>\n
The two identical drills will take place at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., both being about an hour long. The crisis scenario will be staged in the vicinity of Eastman Quad. A perimeter will be established by Public Safety to indicate that a live drill is taking place and to ensure the buildings and area have been cleared for the exercise. Because the drills will simulate a crisis situation on River Campus, members of the University community will see officers and emergency personnel actively responding to the scenario. Live role players will be utilized.<\/p>\n
Employees on River Campus should carry on with regular daily activity on Jan. 5. All River Campus roads will remain open, but travel may be delayed at some points during the exercises. \u00a0The Dewey Lot will be closed all day. Individuals with permits to Dewey Lot have been asked to park in Gavett, Harkness, or Meliora lots for the day.\u00a0 In addition, the B&L Loading dock area will be temporarily closed; staff with permits in the B&L Loading Dock area should also find accommodations in Gavett, Harkness and Meliora Lots.<\/p>\n
The purpose of conducting two drills is to allow multiple emergency responder shifts to participate.<\/p>\n
