Four Arts, Sciences & Engineering faculty members have been chosen as this year’s Wilmot Assistant Professors. The two-year awards recognize “some of the most promising young men and women in the early stages of their academic careers.” They are:
- of mechanical engineering, an expert on computational fluid dynamics as applied at scales ranging from many kilometers to mere micrometers — from ocean currents to inertial confinement fusion.
- of religion, who studies black spiritualists and their churches in America.
- of economics, whose research is mainly concerned with the interaction of public insurance, such as federal disability insurance programs, and the insurance provided through private markets.
- of brain and cognitive sciences, who combines mathematics, computer science, theory, and experimental psychology to understand the computational mechanisms that support children’s acquisition of cognitive systems such as number and language.
