EVENT: Symposium Focuses on Upping Minority Male Achievement

WHO: Members of the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½’s new affinity group, the Minority Male Leadership Association (MMLA), will hold their first ever symposium, set to focus on increasing minority male achievement in Rochester.

TIME, DATE, PLACE: 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, in the Simon Graduate School of Business on the University’s River Campus.

WHAT: Members of the University and Greater Rochester community will participate in “Connect for Success,” a symposium organized by the . The day, which focuses on how to increase minority male achievement in Rochester, includes three workshop sessions designed to create a better understanding of the obstacles that can prevent success for young minority men and build the steps needed to provide positive male role models.

At 1 p.m. in Hubbell Auditorium, MMLA will host a keynote address by Dr. Timothy Benson, a URochester School of Medicine alum, who will discuss unrecognized challenges towards achievement. A current member of the Harvard Medical School faculty, Benson was named the Black Entertainment Television/Toyota Motor Sales National Leader of the Year in 1992 and is co-author of the Amazon.com best-selling book, Nothing But Net.
