First Lecture in the Catholic Newman Community’s Faith in America Series, Marking the 50th Anniversary of Catholic Chaplaincy at the URochester
WHO:听George Weigel, noted author and NBC News Vatican analyst, will deliver the lecture21st-Century Catholics in an Unfamiliar America听as a part of the 2013-2014 Faith in America lecture series, sponsored by the Catholic Newman Community. Weigel’s lecture will explore challenges to Catholicism in 21st-Century America鈥攁 newly aggressive secularism, threats to religious freedom, confusions within the Church itself鈥攁nd suggest how Catholics can meet those challenges by embracing the evangelical vocation into which they were baptized.
TIME, DATE, PLACE:听7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5,听听on the 蘑菇传媒’s River Campus. The lecture is free and open to the public; visitors to the River Campus can park for free in most lots after 7 p.m.
ABOUT GEORGE WEIGEL:听听is a distinguished senior fellow of the Ethics and Public Policy Center, where he currently holds the William E. Simon Chair in Catholic Studies. A Catholic theologian, he is the author or editor of over 20 books, including听The End and the Beginning: Pope John Paul II鈥擳he Victory of Freedom, the Last Years, the Legacy听(Doubleday, 2010);听Practicing Catholic: Essays Historical, Literary, Sporting, and Elegiac听(Crossroad, 2012); and听Evangelical Catholicism: Deep Reform in the 21st-Century Church听(Basic, 2013). He has written essays, op-ed columns, and reviews for major opinion journals and newspapers across the United States. A frequent guest on television and radio, he is also a Vatican analyst for NBC News. His weekly column, “The Catholic Difference,” is syndicated to 60 newspapers.
