More than 475 students from more than 75 countries moved in to their new homes on the River Campus and the Eastman School of Music on Monday, many beginning a new chapter in their lives thousands of miles from home as members of the incoming Class of 2022.

After graduating from high school in Nepal in 2017, Prajita Shrestha 鈥�22 knew she needed a break. After a gap year spent writing, teaching and volunteering in the public health sector, she quickly decided Rochester was the place for her.

Seventy-five students have enrolled at the URochester after completing this two-year program designed to develop and foster Africa's future leaders, scientists, artists, and organizers.

Now that the Class of 2021 has experienced a full year at the University, they鈥檙e ready to offer advice to the incoming Class of 2022 with some helpful tips for succeeding in college.

The coming academic year has been named the Year of Responsibility as part of the University's The Communal Principles Project. In addition to the concept of responsibility, the Project works to promote principles of fairness, freedom, honesty, inclusion, and respect to the University community.

鈥淣o one in my family has ever gone to college, and I probably wouldn鈥檛 have either,鈥� says Rochester City School District rising senior Jason Cao. 鈥淚f I had never joined Upward Bound, I wouldn鈥檛 have even thought of college. Now, I can鈥檛 wait to go.鈥�

Each year, University students visit major cities across the country for networking sessions in real-life working environments. Another series of road trips is being planned for the 2018鈥�19 academic year, and students are urged to apply.

Research at the URochester doesn鈥檛 end when most students leave campus for the summer. It thrives. Students from across the globe are on the River Campus this summer, taking part in Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) and other research programs with Rochester students and faculty members.

For the past decade, more than 100 graduates of Rochester-area colleges have spent their first year out of school working to alleviate poverty in the local community through the University's Rochester Youth Year program.

Nearly 70 Native American high school students will be working with national admissions representatives and counselors on the River Campus this week as part of College Horizons, a college access and success program hosted by the Office of Admissions.

The 蘑菇传媒鈥檚 incoming Class of 2022 is shaping up to be the institution鈥檚 most selective ever, with a 29.6 percent acceptance rate, drawn from a record 20,243 applicants.
