Projects for Peace Campus Nomination Procedures & Timeline
Please be advised that before we nominate you or endorse your candidacy for a fellowship competition, we will perform a conduct and academic honesty check to confirm that you are in good disciplinary and academic standing; a waiver that allows us to do so is part of the Prospective Applicant Form (available below). This applies to each person listed as a project participant.
Campus Timeline 2025-26
Below is the campus schedule for the grant.
Fall semester: Individually or as a group, develop project plans, secure organizational affiliation(s), and request letter(s) of support; students should reach out to those who will supply letters of support well in advance of the January deadline.

November 3, 5 p.m. EST: Submit the and the . Please choose a single group member who will act as a contact for the group; this member will act as a liaison between the group and the Fellowships Office. After submission, email the Fellowships Office at urfellowshipsasst@ur.rochester.edu to schedule a meeting to discuss your plans.
December 9, 5 p.m. EST: Submit your draft proposal using . Consult the for budget instructions. Please submit your budget to the Fellowships Office at urfellowshipsasst@ur.rochester.edu. After submission, please follow up with an email confirming so, and to schedule a meeting to discuss your proposal.
January 2, 5 p.m. EST: Before revising your proposal for committee review, each applicant/team member must read, by John Paul Lederach (it’s short!). Write a maximum one-page single-spaced reflection addressing how your project engages with one or two of Lederach’s ideas and submit via . What in this reading aligns with your conceptualization of peace-building and how is this reflected in your project?
We expect you to discuss in your interview how your project engages with Lederach’s concepts.
January 9, 5 p.m. EST: . A complete application includes all of the components listed below.
- Two-page proposal
- One-page budget (must use Projects for Peace budget template; see the "Guidance" section on the )
- One letter of support/affiliation from each collaborating organization/partner confirming partnership
- One letter of reference for each applicant/group member (preferably from UR faculty or professional staff person, although external letters are acceptable)
- One up-to-date résumé for each applicant/group member

Mid-January: Projects for Peace campus interviews and selection of nominees.
Additional Steps for Nominees
Nominees should schedule an appointment with the Fellowships Office to discuss committee feedback and final revision of application materials.

Projects Outside of the US
For all projects being proposed in a location outside of the United States, students must familiarize themselves with and use the available through the .
No project will be considered for nomination to a location deemed too risky according to the professional security standards to which the University adheres—including an applicant's home country. Projects proposed to countries or regions with a US Department of State Level 3 (or higher) Travel Advisory (more at ) will undergo additional scrutiny and will need to be approved by an internal UR travel review committee. For students whose projects are nominated by UR, changes in the safety and security situation of the proposed location may require alterations to the original project.
