Arrival of crane marks project milestone<\/span><\/h3>\n

A free-standing static tower crane was erected on a prebuilt foundation within the construction site. The tower has a horizontal boom with a 360\u00b0 rotation for moving assembled construction materials onto the new building and its foundation as it is constructed.<\/p>\n

Tower cranes are needed in construction projects that have limited access and where standard mobile cranes do not have the reach required to construct a building. Tower crane facts<\/h3>\n

  • The tower crane sits on a foundation made of 115.5 tons of concrete, 57 cubic yards<\/li>\n
  • Its foundation will become a permanent part of the completed building<\/li>\n
  • Height to the lifting hook is 198 feet; total crane height is 219 feet, or about 21 stories tall<\/li>\n
  • Total reach from the crane tower is 246 feet<\/li>\n
  • It took 31 tractor trailers to deliver the parts and equipment needed to erect the crane<\/li>\n
  • The tower crane will remain at URMC for 16 months<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
