\nThe Eastman Studio Orchestra, directed by Bill Dobbins, will present their annual March concert. Professor Dobbins will be retiring at the end of June, so this will be his last concert as director. The program will consist of arrangements by masters and doctoral students from Eastman\u2019s Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media department of music by Chick Corea, Clare Fischer, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Richard Rodgers, and Guy Wood, representing influential and often recorded repertoire from the American songbook and the jazz repertoire. The program will also include the world premiere of a new composition by DMA\/JCM trombonist Andrew Watkins. In addition to the live repertoire, selections by the Eastman Studio Orchestra from the late 1970s, with Rayburn Wright conducting, will be screened.

\nThe center piece on the program is Koolish Zein, a three-movement work for solo marimba and vibraphone with percussion quartet and electronics by New Zealand composer John Psathas, written for Michael Burritt and commissioned by a consortium of universities including Eastman. Professor Burritt will be joined by Assistant Professor of Music Theory Matt Curlee \u201801E (MM) for the premiere of Curlee\u2019s new work, Something Hiding in the Light, a piano and marimba duo with percussion quartet. In addition, the program offers premieres of All Green Lights, a percussion duo by Kyle Peters \u201817E (MM) and Michael Burritt\u2019s newest solo work, Blue Smoke.
