In case you missed it, yesterday, Andrzej Sosnowski’s “Morning Edition” (as translated by Benjamin Paloff) was featured on Poetry Daily.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

Garrulous mornings, dynamic
\ndepartures from the take-off of night,
\nmouths filled with words that snap
\nlike a parachute behind the fighter
\npilot landing on an aircraft carrier. Stop,
\nI think you misheard that. I think
\nit’s an Eastern European high pressure
\narea working on my nerves with signs
\nof sun beneath the still-closed
\nsluice of day, as the machinery
\ntrembles before the grand opening
\nand the sun maneuvers toward the gates
\nalready ready to enter, soar up, sail out
\nover the city with the dazzling pomp
\nof a heat wave. The rooks that spend
\nthe night in the poplars in front of the house
\nhave already flown to the fields,
\nbut in sleep their dark racket was so very
\ntalkative that I imagine it might be
\npossible to chat with birds
\nat some wild frequency,
\nhead over heels, at daybreak,
\nbecause they run the same missions
\nat night as in the morning, so to hell
\nwith the goggles and flight suit, let’s
\nfile classified reports on the position
\nof enemies and friends on the Ocean
\nof Storms and the Sea of Vapors, the Sea
\nof Dreams and Crises, on the Sea
\nof Tranquility. How did the moon
\nget in here? And enemies? Let’s talk about
\nyou instead: so what if you’re lousy
\non the jump? You glide right off
\nthe edge, where there is no end,
\nand it’s a long way down? Now
\nleapfrog: surely that umbrella
\nis a parachute? Sometimes
\nI’m afraid of this mumbling,
\nthese words with missed connections,
\nfrom nowhere to nowhere, as if
\nmy head shone ominously with lights
\nfrom a pinball machine, but under
\nwhose control? Yours, or his there?
\nAnd do you remember Kloss? Ingolf
\nMork! The inrun, take-off, flight
\nand landing: I go to the bathroom,
\ncold water, shower, splashes
\nof water like snow from under skis
\nand the head blown off the pint
\ninto the faces of gawkers. I’d like
\nto jump that well, too. But something
\ndoesn’t want to pass my throat
\nafter the landing: could it be
\nthat the night is dumbstruck, dazed
\nwithin me, speechless? Let’s
\ngo get a beer.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Any poem is a good poem that ends with “Let’s go get a beer.” Speaking of . . . <\/p>\n
