{"id":270526,"date":"2009-04-21T15:05:15","date_gmt":"2009-04-21T15:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wdev.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent-dev\/2009\/04\/21\/katherine-silver-wins-ncba-translation-award\/"},"modified":"2018-04-16T17:24:06","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T17:24:06","slug":"katherine-silver-wins-ncba-translation-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rochester.edu\/College\/translation\/threepercent\/2009\/04\/21\/katherine-silver-wins-ncba-translation-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Katherine Silver wins NCBA Translation Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 28th Northern California Book Awards were held in San Francisco last weekend, and, in conjunction with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catranslation.org\">Center for the Art of Translation<\/a>, they awarded a Translation Award &#8220;to bring attention to all the wonderful translations coming out of the Bay Area and to encourage local audiences to read more international literature.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s winner was Katherine Silver, for her translation of Horacio Castellanos Moya&#8217;s <em>Senselessness<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a list of the nominees:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>The Old Man&#8217;s Verses<\/em> by Ivan Divis, Translated from Czech by Deborah Garfinkle, Host Publications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Odes and Elegies<\/em> by Friedrich H\u00f6lderlin, Translated from German by Nick Hoff, Wesleyan University Press<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>State of Exile<\/em> by Cristina Peri Rossi, Translated from Spanish by Marilyn Buck, City Lights Publishers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Senselessness<\/em> by Horacio Castellanos Moya, Translated from Spanish by Katherine Silver, New Directions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Belonging: New Poetry by Iranians Around the World<\/em>, Translated from Persian by Niloufar Talebi, North Atlantic Books<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s a worthy list, and we&#8217;re not about to argue with the result. <em>Senselessness<\/em> is an incredible novel, and the translation is wonderful as well.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;d like a chance to meet Moya, and maybe get him to sign a copy of <em>Senselessness<\/em> for you, you can catch him at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pen.org\/author.php\/prmAID\/401\"><span class=\"caps\">PEN<\/span> World Voices Festival<\/a> next week.
