Here are this year&#8217;s finalists:<\/p>\n<p>Fiction:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Allah Is Not Obliged<\/i> by Ahmadou Kourouma, translated by Frank Wynne;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Kick the Animal Out<\/i> by Veronique Ovalde, translated by Adriana Hunter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Place Names<\/i> by Jean Ricardou, translated by Jordan Stump;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Ravel<\/i> by Jean Echenoz, translated by Linda Coverdale;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Solea<\/i> by Jean-Claude Izzo, translated by Howard Curtis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Non-fiction:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>The Curtain<\/i> by Milan Kundera, translated by Linda Asher;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Divagations<\/i> by Stephane Mallarme, translated by Barbara Johnson;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><i>How to Talk about Books You Haven&#8217;t Read<\/i> by Pierre Bayard, translated by Jeffrey Mehiman;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Life Laid Bare<\/i> by Jean Hatzfeld, translated by Linda Coverdale;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><i>A Voice from Elsewhere<\/i> by Maurice Blanchot, translated by Charlotte Mandell.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All are worthy titles, although I&#8217;m pulling for <i>Ravel<\/i> and <i>Life Laid Bare<\/i> so that Linda Coverdale can walk away with a dual victory . . . <\/p>\n<p>Winners receive a cash prize of $10,000 each, and in case you&#8217;re interested, the ceremony takes place Wednesday, May 28&#8212;the day before the start of BookExpo America. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m sure this has been written about already, but I just received the invitation to the 21st Annual Translation Prize ceremony sponsored by the French-American Foundation and Florence Gould Foundation.
