One was Albert Camus\u2019s L\u2019\u00c9tranger, the other <a href=\"http:\/\/entertainment.timesonline.co.uk\/tol\/arts_and_entertainment\/the_tls\/article3539880.ece\">Georges Simenon\u2019s<\/a> La Veuve Couderc. Camus\u2019s novel rose to become part of the literary firmament, and is still glittering, intensely studied and praised \u2013 to my mind, overpraised.
